Junction Types

For the purpose of this database, a junctions type can be defined either by the number of strands or the number of helices or stems which compose the junction. (Remember that the number of strands will always equal the number of stems.) A two-way junction has two strands and two stems and so on and so forth. There is one peculiarity worth mentioning, and that is: the type kissing loop. It is a two way junction (as per number of helices or number of strands) that has been furhter characterized by the interaction between its constituent strands.
